Venizelos Historical Museum

The Museum has been operating since 1975 on the first floor of the building that once housed the club of Venizelos’ liberal party. Its collection encompasses photographs, personal effects and various other items relating to the period when he lived.

An impressive number of photographs of the era when Venizelos was the leading political figure in Greece are suspended on panels representing different periods, enabling visitors to form a thorough idea of the history of Greece in the early 20th century.

Special cases are given over to the display of a number of items representing the political and private life of Venizelos, including briefcases, fountain pens, rings, jewellery and medallions. A separate case displays his letters and his foreign language exercise books, while another contains old books and a small stamp collection.

Another case displays the underwear that he was wearing when an attempt was made to assassinate him at Lyon station in Paris in 1920, where the holes from the bullets are clearly visible in the shoulder and thigh. His coat and distinctive two-peaked cap are in a different case.

On the ground floor are prints of folk art featuring Venizelos, portraits of him, sketches, decorative plates bearing his face, busts and his favourite radio. More photographs, drawings, sketches, his chair and travelling trunks are displayed in the attic of the large room.
